Now that spring is here this year in the Lowcountry, you may find it’s time to do some spring cleaning, plan a few home projects or get your business ready for springtime events before summer hits.
While you’re getting ready to handle and plan those tasks, it would also be a good time for you to review & double-check your security measures you have to keep your family & property safe.
To help you out with your security review, here’s quick rundown of things you might want to pay special attention to this spring.
Physical locks form the basis of defense from intrusion, theft or vandalism for your home & business. Very often a theft will occur when you leave a window or door unlocked — easy prey for would-be theives.
Be sure to check your deadbolts, make sure all keys to padlocks are accounted for or any other physical locks you may have as well.
If you already have a security system installed with monitoring, then it might be a good time to review its capabilities and make sure everything is tested correctly.
If you have a system with several sensors (door/window, glass break, motions, etc.), then take an hour or two and ensure they’re all working. Your security company in Charleston should be able to help you out by putting your system on TEST mode and let you know if all signals are being received by your alarm monitoring station.
Should you not have a security system in place for your home or business, see number 5 in our checklist below.
Having a security camera system is a great way to ward off thieves and catch them in the act, so if you already have one in place, great work.
Even if you have one in place, however it may be time to upgrade. Each year better cameras come into the market; ones with clearer pictures and better capabilities overall.
So if you feel like your system is a bit outdated it may be time to get a hold of a video surveillance company to see how they can best upgrade your system.
As a general rule of thumb, it’s always good to swap out your passwords and passcodes a few times a year. This includes passcodes for your security system, security camera system, access control systems and even important passwords online.
By changing your password often or implementing multi-factor authentication for your high-level accounts, you can keep would-be hackers and other cybersecurity threats guessing and gaining access to your information.
As always, should you feel like you don’t have time to go through each part of this spring security checklist, be sure to give a call to your local security company to schedule a free home or business security review.
Security companies like ourselves, SNAP Integrations, can assist you and even help uncover potential security threats you may overlook during your spring review.
We hope you have a safe & secure spring this year, Lowcountry and look for more security tips from this blog in the weeks ahead.
